Courtney Neff-Smallegan, the wife of the current Leader of the Opposition and former Prime Minister Marcus Smallegan, currently serves as the Director of Personnel for the New Conservative Party. Neff-Smallegan has not yet begun her law and political career, as she is still finishing her Law Degree from the University of Ibagli. However, once completed, she intends on becoming a Lawyer in Ibagli. Neff-Smallegan met her husband, Marcus Smallegan, in 1990 at the University of Hapalnia. At this time, she was pursuing a career in Accounting, and Smallegan was on the Law/International Affairs track. They became good friends, and continued to see each other for the time they were in college. When Smallegan departed to the United States to complete his Law training, Neff-Smallegan completed college, and became an accountant for the Ministry of Labour. Neff-Smallegan had no intentions of working with the government, however, her job at the Ministry of Labour did get her connections with the Government of Hapalnia. When Smallegan returned from the United States, he reconnected with Neff-Smallegan, and they were engaged late in 1996.
The wedding of Courtney Neff-Smallegan and Marcus Smallegan was set for August 13, 1997. During the time leading up to the wedding, the two worked on their plans for their new lives together. Both agreed that they wanted to pursue a career before they pursued a family. Neff-Smallegan began discussing politics with her husband, and became more and more interested in government and politics in general. The wedding took place on time, and the two travelled to Europe for their honeymoon. Upon their return, Smallegan became active in Hapalnian Government.
When Hapalnia integrated into Ibagli, Smallegan considered a career in Ibaglian Government, but ultimately, Courtney was able to convince him to stay in Hapalnia. She also encouraged Smallegan to form a professional instrumental ensemble. Neff-Smallegan played the Clarinet, and agreed to help her husband with the new ensemble. This ensemble would later turn into the Hapalnian Metropolitan Symphony, the Hapalnian Symphony Orchestra, and now the Ibaglian Symphony Orchestra. Neff-Smallegan was placed in the Clarinet section of the Symphony, and the two of them continued their involvement in the Music community. Both of them also continued to work closely at their careers. Smallegan eventually became a Member of Parliament in Ibagli, and eventually, the Conservative Party removed Smallegan from the party, forcing him to create the New Conservative Party. Neff-Smallegan fully supported the new party, and immediately registered as a member.
It was at this time that Neff-Smallegan began her pursuit of a Law degree. She enrolled in the University of Ibagli's Law program, and is on a fast-track course to getting her law degree sometime this summer. Neff-Smallegan has already proceeded to the top of her class, and intends to become a Lawyer after she recieves her degree in Law. She also intends to work her way into Parliament over time. However, during the transition period, she will assist the New Conservative Party as Director of Personnel. In this capacity, she is responsible for overseeing Human Relations within the party, and also is currently responsible for Member Relations. Neff-Smallegan continues to live with her husband, Marcus Smallegan, and their two dogs, Candy and Buffy, in Haphonia, Ibagli.
