News:20070919 GGDG Afghanistan
As the families of 20 Royal Ibaglian Regiment personnel prepare to welcome their loved ones home, the families of 20 Governor-General's Dragoon Guards personnel prepare to say goodbye. The GGDG are preparing to be deployed to Afghanistan, where they will work with British Army forces in Helmand Province.
The troops to be deployed and their families attended a service at the Army Chapel in Haphonia yesterday, ahead of their departure on Thursday. Also present at the service were Governor-General Sir Steven Spell, the Colonel of the Regiment; Chief of the Defence Staff Field Marshal Sir Peter Chaucer; and Chief of the Army General Edward Manning.
Ibaglian forces have been present in Afghanistan since the invasion in 2001. Since January 2006 they have been split between Canadian and British Provincial Reconstruction Teams in Kandahar Province and Helmand Province, respectively.
