The Minister of Home Affairs is the member of the Ibaglian cabinet responsible for overseeing the Royal Ibaglian Constabulary, His Majesty's Customs, and the Ibaglian prison system. The post was created in 1967 by Prime Minister Joseph Kenilworth to take over responsibilities handled by the Minister of Defence and the Attorney-General. The existence of the office was later criticised by the Liberal opposition for placing too much of an emphasis on measures used to curtail civil liberties. Prime Minister LeVeque considered abolishing the post after the Liberal victory in 1972, but eventually decided to appoint a new minister.
